Match Notes-

With the last international break of the season behind us, Premier League football returns with a blockbuster fixture. Manchester City vs Liverpool has been a title decider in recent years, and although the Reds aren’t competing for 1st place, the match is still crucial for both sides. Pep Guardiola’s men will be desperate to start the weekend with three points to put pressure on first place Arsenal. A win would close the gap to just 5 points, with the two sides still set to meet in a few weeks time. Similarly, Klopp men will know that a win is absolutely vital, and may be the difference between the Reds playing Champions League football next season. Although they’ve struggled to find consistency this season, the Merseyside outfit have turned up in big games, beating City earlier in the season and thrashing rivals Manchester United just a few weeks prior.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is a doubt for the match, having picked up a groin injury. However, if at all fit, Guardiola won’t miss the opportunity to have him in the squad. Haaland is having an absolutely extraordinary season, with 28 Premier League goals in 27 games. Liverpool will be boosted by the return of Luis Diaz to first team training, and may be able to bring him on off the bench if needed. Both teams will know each other well, having gone toe to toe for the past few seasons. I think the outcome of the match will be determined by the discipline of Liverpool’s defense, and the ability of their midfield to control the game. It will be tight, and both sides will leave with a point.
