Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Preview

Overview

Good Day fellow Reds!!! Sunday 6 December marks the return of fans back in Anfield for the first time in 270 days! Finally, they can sing and cheer on the ‘Reigning, Defending, Undisputed’ 19-time Champions of England! The match kicks off at 2:15 EST on Peacock. The man with the whistle is Craig Pawson, but the man in charge, is VAR Official Chris Kavanagh. The weather when the ball drops should be right around 40F with minimal winds and a chance of precipitation around 10%. Liverpool go into the match in second place with 21 points, only trailing Spurs on goal differential. Wolves are in seventh with 17 points, which puts them only one point out of a Champions League spot.

Injuries

Here we are again… The usual suspects are out.. Joe (Gomez), Virg, Thiago, Ox. Alisson will miss again with another soft-tissue injury… kinda getting concerned. James Milner is out with a hamsting, as is Shaqiri with a “muscle” injury.

The good news is that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita were back in training today and could possibly feature on Sunday in some compacity.

However, the best news of the day? The Big Man (Virgil) was back in the AXA training complex, looking ready for action, even though he is still several months away.

For Wolverhampton, Raul Jimenez is out with a fractured skull. The good news is that he is recovering from surgery well, and is expected to make a full recovery. Godspeed on that.

Previous Form

The Reds have taken 11 from a possible fifteen points from their last five league matches. The previous results are as follows:

D (1-1 BHA+VAR) – W (3-0 LEI) – D (1-1 MCI) – W (2-1 WHU) – W (2-1 SHU)

Wolverhampton have taken 8 from a possible 15 points in their previous five league matches. The previous results are as follows:

W (2-1 ARS) – D (1-1 SOU) – L( 0-1 LEI) – W (2-0 CRY) – D (1-1 NEW)

Lineup and Prediction

In goal, I think that Kelleher did enough against Atalanta to warrant a start this weekend. Andy Robertson‘s ankle should be well enough off for him to start at left back. Fabinho will partner once again with Joel Matip as CBs. I feel that Trent will get the start on Sunday at RB. Neco Williams has had a few matches there in a row, and with a kid that young, less is more. In the midfield, the lack of options means it picks itself. Jordan Henderson in the middle, and Gini Wjnaldum and Curtis Jones on his flanks. Look for the front three to regroup as Sadio, Bobby, and Mo take up the positions that made them world class names.

Wolves could line up like this:

Patricio; Semedo, Boly, Coady, Marcal; Dendoncker, Moutinho; Traore, Podence, Neto; Silva

MOTM

I don’t care if someone scores seven on Sunday! The MOTM will be the 2,000 people at the ground screaming and singing their lungs out! I expect Anfield to be loud and proud, and bless us with their greatest hits! Let us hear Poor Scouser Tommy, Anfield Roads, We’re Gonna Win the League. Fuck it, sing about Torres and Suarez. Tell me how big and fucking hard Stevie G is. Tell Neverton Merry Christmas. Just be in full fuckin’ voice for 90+ min. Sing for all those people who can’t come back yet. I know I will be.
