The LFC Women’s team headed into their week off on a win, and continued that high this past weekend with a 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic Women. Jade Bailey and Kirsty Linnett both found the scoresheet in the win, as well as a name we are getting used to hearing – Rachel Furness – as she contributed two goals as well.

The goals started quickly.  Rachel Furness delivered a header to the back of the net in the 12th minute. It was a great corner kick delivered by Jade Bailey straight to Furness’s head.  Overall, the first half was dominated by Liverpool corner kicks. Charlton played a tight defense, but could not hold the Reds, as Bailey scored her first club goal in the 34th minute.  The Reds stormed into the box, stringing together some great passes through the Charlton defense.  When the ball found Bailey in the area, she put it in the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game for Liverpool. The halftime whistle blew, and Liverpool headed to the dressing room feeling pretty good with their performance.

The second half we saw more aggression from Charlton moving forward, and plenty of great saves from the Charlton keeper.  As the game was winding down, the Reds decided to put a few more in the back of the net. Rachel Furness took a beautiful shot outside of the box, a goalie’s nightmare that stayed low all the way to the far-right corner. Furness’s second goal of the game made it 3-0 in the 84th minute.  To wrap up the match, Kirsty Linnett added a score in the ninetieth minute – another header. It is safe to say the lady Reds have really established their aerial prowess – they can score goals with their heads!

After Liverpool’s win against Charlton, they find themselves second on the table. You can catch all the action for their next game on Sunday 4 October against Coventry at Butts Park Arena.
