What to Watch : Matchday 29

Welcome back to league play, everyone. We all view the international break in a different way and while some of us watched several games, others took the opportunity to take a week. Make sure to check out our last podcast episode to get our take on the international break and how it has evolved over the years in some cases.

Now that we are back and there is a full slate of games over the weekend, what do we watch? I am here to help you as always but will be cheating a bit, taking a look at some very important match-ups outside of the standard Premier League fixtures.

PSG vs Lille Saturday 11:00 am EST

If you hate Neymar as much as I do (believe me I can write an entire piece on why I feel the way I do), you are rooting against PSG. Lille has been a surprising force in the Ligue 1 this season and these two teams are tied on points as they head into the final 8 weeks. A win for either side will go a long way in the title race and I expect the game to be very tense throughout. I mentioned above that I do enjoy watching the Bundesliga and while I cannot say the same for Ligue 1, this is definitely a game to watch as the best two teams in the league will be going at it. A draw will only bring Lyon and Monaco into the title race so any scenario except a PSG win is fine by me. This Should be an enjoyable game with plenty of talent on both sides and perhaps our future striker Mbappe? You never know.

RB Leipzig vs Bayern Saturday 12:30 EST

This game is very important, especially for Leipzig. If they lose to Bayern at home, pretty much seals the deal for yet another title for Bayern. A win for Leipzig gets them a point behind the title defenders with 9 games left in the season. You also get to watch several players that are or will be linked with LFC. I find the Bundesliga enjoyable to watch in terms of pace and quality so definitely recommend watching this one. My next recommendation starts at the same time so if you are not a fan of German football, there is a pretty darn good alternative in the Premier League in the same time slot.

Leicester City vs Manchester City Saturday 12:30 EST

If you are on a strict Premier League diet, this is the game to watch on Saturday. Leicester will want to make sure they do not suffer the collapse of last season and have a comfortable spot in the Champions League. Speaking of the Champions League, look for City to rest some of their players as they look ahead to the upcoming match against Dortmund. Normally, I would want City to win and give us a better chance in getting a spot in the top 4, but I think the best we can hope for at the moment is grabbing the 4th spot. Then again, we did talk about the collapse of last year for Leicester and some will say anything is possible. I, however, will say that Leicester has too many solid pieces to suffer the same collapse and let us make up that much ground in the games remaining this season.

To be honest, I look at Sunday’s fixtures and struggle to find a solid recommendation. You can always watch some of the games against our top 4 challengers and root against them. I will probably have some of those games in the background while I get a start on some outdoor projects. That garden is not going to plant itself, and the grass looks pretty pathetic. With Champions League games keeping us busy during the week, use Sunday to catch up on your work!

Enjoy your weekend Reds! YNWA!
