Liverpool FC Women VS Sheffield United

Liverpool FC Women Vs Sheffield United

It was a went and damp Sunday for the soccer world. You either love playing in the rain or you absolutely hate it.  The LFC Women’s team took full advantage of it this past weekend during their 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at Prenton Park.

The Reds started off strong in the first few minutes. Rinsola Babajide made some great runs into the box hoping to get an early goal. Her wish came true five minutes into the game when she put one in the back of the net.  It was a beautiful strike with her left foot that gave the Reds an early lead.  It was only the first few minutes of the game but the Reds were taking full advantage of this second place Sheffield team.  It truly was an excited first twenty minutes. We saw great opportunities from Rachel Furness and Melissa Lawley.  The at home spectators were starting to question if Sheffield was even on the pitch. The Reds goalkeeper, Rachael Laws did see some action in this game. In about the thirtieth minute she makes a great volley save to keep the game 1-0. Right before the first half ended we saw a change when Jade Bailey came off the pitch with an injury and was replaced by Ashley Hodson.  Despite the injury the Reds finish the first half strong with a 1-0 lead.

The second half starts with the hope that Rachel Furness would net one in.  Sheffield makes their first change in hopes that they would spice the game up.  More missed chances and three Red substitutions later the game finally ends with a Liverpool victory.  The reds came out strong but Fat Kitching the Sheffield goalkeeper kept her team in the game.  Liverpool now sits third on the table tied with Sheffield United and one point behind Durham.

You can catch the next game on Sunday 15 November 2020 at 8:00 am CST. They will be taking on Blackburn Rovers at Tom Finney Stadium.
