The International Overthinking Break, Part One
A lengthy international break is upon us. For some Liverpool supporters, it gives time to lick the wounds of two brutal ends to competitions. For others, it allows for reflection on how incredible this season has been otherwise. But in the end, there will be a contingent that resorts to overthinking.

The “Where We Are” Edition
As a Liverpool fan long before social media, I’ve always been pretty well-balanced about what the future may or may not look like. There are blatantly obvious needs in the squad, realistic targets, and ones who are in another galaxy.
So, with our next Premier League match in early April, LFC is looking like it’s a precession to the title in 2025. All despite one of the most iconic managers ever departing the club. Arne Slot has integrated seamlessly in and picked up where Jurgen left off. The club competing for the top prizes is nothing short of miraculous, considering the competition.
But Why Am I Overthinking?
If this assessment or numbers are off please make your feelings known in the comments. IF Trent, Mo, and Virgil leave that’s essentially three captains out of the squad. It is impossible to replace that in one go. We may get replacements, but they will be 50-75% of the quality. They’ll have the potential to improve depending on the age profile, which LFC tends to do under FSG. No point saying otherwise, and in no way overreacting, it’s a scenario that no club in world football would not be affected by to lose all three of them at once.
So then we come to the word TRUST. That’s all I keep hearing, Slot only trusts 13/14 players. Will that number shrink even more if there are more departures?

In part two I’ll dive into the impact of the rest of the squad’s impact this season or lack thereof. The potential departures and why. Also, do FSG have the balls to pull the trigger in the realms of Alisson and Virgil van Dijk transfer fees to keep us at the very top whilst we are at the very top.
