Back To His Best
The Liverpool goalkeeping situation hasn’t been a discussion for almost a decade. Since the arrival of Alisson Becker in the summer of 2018, there hasn’t been any doubt who the Red’s number one between the sticks is. A Premier League, European Cup, and multiple trophies later, there have been some silent musings about the future of Alisson in Arne Slot’s setup over the coming years, with the big Brazilian missing a decent chunk of the season until very recently. Are these concerns valid? Given the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer, it presents a noteworthy talking point among the Liverpool faithful.

Ever Reliable?
One of Alisson’s best traits throughout his Liverpool career has been his remarkable consistency. Whether it is his positioning, distribution, or shot-stopping, our big Brazilian always does it at a high level. As mentioned, the issue over the last few years has been availability rather than reliability, although this year, there have been some questions over Alisson’s form, particularly since coming back from injury. Thankfully, his performance against Bournemouth last weekend that ensured a clean sheet in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory silenced the naysayers a bit. With our Brazilian number-one coming up with crucial stops to deny an in-form Bournemouth team. There’s no doubt that if Liverpool are going to win the silverware they’re looking to win this season, Alisson will be playing a big part in the journey.
The Elephant In The Room
Of course, there wouldn’t be any Alisson conversations nowadays without talking about the shot-stopping Georgian Mamardashvili, who is one of world football’s most promising prospects. What does this mean for Alisson? Both goalkeepers are good enough to nail down the first-choice label for any football club in the world. However, with Alisson’s injury-prone tendencies, especially in the last two seasons, perhaps Liverpool was in the right to splash the cash for the Georgian. It presents a conundrum for the Reds and Arne Slot, having two world-class goalies in the squad, with only so many games to go around. The logical conclusion would be that an Alisson exit can happen sooner rather than later. Such is the harsh reality of football that our player of the season two seasons ago can suddenly find himself wearing new colors next season.
Staying In The Moment
Regardless of any concerns about the future or whoever will be keeping the Liverpool goal next season, there’s simply no room for thinking too far ahead now, especially since Liverpool is in such a position of ascendancy in the Premier League title race. Too much speculation can be detrimental to a season, and there’s no doubting Alisson’s professionalism and willingness to do whatever it takes to win his second Premier League title. Despite all the noise and rumors, the fact remains that we still have one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history who is protecting our goal. He’s never failed us in the past, and we owe it to him to continue keeping the faith. His exceptional performance against Bournemouth is, in my opinion, that Alisson is truly back to his best, and it’s all the more beneficial for Liverpool, we’ve got a league title to win, after all.
