Three Down, Thirty-Five To Go

There was a collective sigh of relief as the final whistle blew on the oldest, and best rivalry in English football. We had looked organized and dangerous against both Ipswich and at home vs Brentford. But United were touted to be our “first test” and a gauge of how effective Slot’s tactics, and our execution of them, would be. After the three-nil victory over United, which was Arne Slot’s third win and third clean sheet in charge, we can all finally exhale.

Three Points With A Purpose

The win against our biggest rivals at Old Trafford was not just another three points. It was a statement. I admit, I was skeptical when Slot was announced as Klopp’s successor. Who could replace a legend? Klopp wasn’t just a manager; he was the embodiment of what it meant to be Liverpool. His heavy-metal football was thrilling, chaotic, and built on an unrelenting press that suffocated the opposition. Watching Slot’s more measured, possession-based system take shape has been both fascinating and reassuring.

Slot’s style has injected a new level of control in our play. Under Klopp, we were often guilty of leaving ourselves exposed, throwing bodies forward in relentless waves of attack. This season, under Slot, there’s a noticeable shift in our defensive structure. The back line is holding firm, and with three clean sheets to start his reign, it’s clear that his focus on organization and discipline is paying off. We’re no longer relying solely on our forwards to outscore the opposition; instead, we’re dictating the tempo of the game, keeping the ball more, and being more patient in our build-up.

That’s not to say it’s perfect. There are still times when I miss the intensity and unpredictability of Klopp’s high-pressing approach. But it’s refreshing to see that Slot is not trying to copy Klopp. He’s bringing his own philosophy to the team, and the early signs are encouraging. The balance between defense and attack feels more stable, and Gravenberch, Mo and Virg seem reinvigorated under the new system.

Looking ahead, I’m cautiously optimistic. The pundits seem divided on how we’ll fare for the rest of the season, but most agree that we’re in for a solid campaign. The squad depth and tactical adaptability Slot has introduced could be key in a long, grueling Premier League season. While I don’t think we’ll be runaway champions, I believe we’ll be right in the mix for a top-four finish, possibly pushing all the way to the final fixture of the season if the team continues to gel under Slot. The foundation is there for something special, and if we can keep this momentum going, who knows? Maybe we’ll add another trophy to the cabinet by the season’s end.

For now, I’m just enjoying the relief that comes with knowing that this team is in good hands, even after Klopp’s departure. There’s a long way to go, but I’m confident that this new era under Slot will bring us plenty more moments to celebrate. YNWA.
