Not Good Enough (Again)
Do I really need to say it?
Is there anything I can write about it that you don’t already know?
We can’t beat one of the worst teams in the league – perhaps one of the worst in the history of the league – at Anfield, even while utterly dominating. We do everything right except for the last ball (Dom’s penalty being a perfect encapsulation of our season so far), and then we lose our heads (hello, Ibou) and drop the points in a moment of madness.
They get one chance, they snatch the point, they have a happy drive home, and we’re left with the familiar pit in our stomachs.
Sure, this is better than losing every game, but not that much better. As far the turnarounds go, this one feels like it is getting snuffed out. Somehow. At least we’re still very much in the fight for that critical fourth place because everyone else (except the Gunners) suck, and domestic league performance doesn’t necessarily translate to how well we do in the Champions’ League, so who knows. Coming out with any silverware out of this season would be remarkable.
At least Wirtz was wonderful. I suppose.
Let me not waste your time or mine any further. I’ll just say that I’m not blaming Slot – this is on the players. The tactical plan worked, the setup was right, but in the end, it’s up to the players to execute.
They didn’t.
Just remember to hold your head up high, lads. A golden sky awaits…
Eventually.
